WELCOME TO PS ALPACAS |
Paul and Sandy Gregg officially started their alpaca farm outside Woodstock, Illinois on Labor Day weekend of 2004. It took alot of work in some very cold weather to get their 3 acre country paradise ready for the animals but on New Year's Eve the 3 females and 1 male came to their new home. Since then 2 more females were bought and 11 have been born. Rosey, pictured above, was the first born after they were bought but Aphrodite was actually born on the farm. Arwen is the newest arrival. Alpacas have an 11 1/2 month gestation period. They are used to the cold mountains of South America. Their fleece, which is very soft and warm, keeps them comfortable in the winter months. They are sheared in the spring both for their own comfort and to give us that luxurious fleece to make all sorts of soft, warm clothing. A baby alpaca is called a cria. |
